Doggy Paddlers unable to generate offense in road loss to LumberKings

Doggy Paddlers

CLINTON, Iowa — Three pitchers for the Clinton LumberKings limited the Quincy Doggy Paddlers to three hits Tuesday night, winning 5-1 in the first of back-to-back nights playing at NelsonCorp Field.

Quincy scored its lone run in the fifth inning when Wandel Campana led off with a single, took second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Jameson Johnson’s sacrifice fly. That tied the game at 1.

However, the LumberKings answered in the bottom of the frame. An error, a single and a one-out walk loaded the bases, leading to a go-ahead sacrifice fly by Jalen Martinez. After another walk reloaded the bases, the Doggy Paddlers went to the bullpen and reliever Sorrentin was greeted by Jamie Rasmussen cracking a bases-clearing double to right field.

Quincy’s Patrick Wadja took the loss, allowing four earned runs and five hits over 4 ⅔ innings with four walks and two strikeouts.

The Doggy Paddlers have lost five games in a row, are 8-13 overall and will finish a four-game road trip Wednesday night against Clinton. The LumberKings are in first place in the Prospect League’s Northwest Division with a 16-7 record.
