Doggy Paddlers’ offense unable to replicate explosive tendency in loss to Pistol Shrimp

PERU, Ill. — The Quincy Doggy Paddlers could not carry over their offensive momentum from Tuesday into their clash with the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp on Wednesday.

A day after scoring 10 runs in the first inning in a victory over the Burlington Bees, the Doggy Paddlers could not scratch across a run until the sixth inning, and the Pistol Shrimp picked up a 9-2 victory at Schweickert Stadium.

The Doggy Paddlers fell behind 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Their lone two runs came on a Krew Bond two-out double in the top of the sixth to make it 5-2, but Wandel Campana lined out to shortstop to strand Bond at second.

The Pistol Shrimp tacked on three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of two-out singles by Lucas Smith and James Love, and they added an insurance tally in the seventh.

Luke Teschke, Josh Katz and Caleb Okada combined to strike out 11 Doggy Paddlers hitters and walk just one. Smith went 3 for 5 out of the leadoff spot, and Alejandro Puig went 3 for 3 and reached base four times.

Bond, Skylar Graham and Tommy Harrison each had two hits for Quincy (11-16, 2-2 second half). The Doggy Paddlers will face the Pistol Shrimp (13-16, 2-2 second half) again on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
