Doggy Paddlers held to two hits in five-inning loss to Pistol Shrimp

Doggy Paddlers

PERU, Ill. — The combination of quality Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp pitching and bad weather ruined any chance of the Quincy Doggy Paddlers making a comeback.

The Pistol Shrimp built an 8-0 lead through five innings and right-handed pitcher Jack Savitch limited the Doggy Paddlers to two hits before inclement forced the game to be called official after five innings.

The Doggy Paddlers have lost 16 of their last 17 games and were shut out for the second time during that stretch.

Savitch struck out six and walked none in earning his first Prospect League victory. Quincy’s two hits came on a Brady Kindhart single to left field leading off the second inning and on an Ashton Ertz infield single with one out in the third inning. Neither runner advanced beyond first base.

Tyler Dance suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs and eight hits over four innings. He struck out four and walked one.

The Doggy Paddlers are 15-34 overall and 6-20 in the second half of the Prospect League season. They continue a seven-game road trip with Saturday night’s game against the Pistol Shrimp.
