HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Quincy High School girls basketball team bookended its opening salvo with 3-pointers from Madelyn Hamby and Myley Longcor.

After that, Jada Brown took over.

The Blue Devils rattled off a 12-2 run to start Tuesday night’s game against Hannibal at Korf Gym as Hamby scored the first seven points and Longcor’s 3-pointer from the left corner forced Pirates coach Shawn Gaines to call a timeout with 4:03 remaining in the first quarter.

Brown then went to work in the post, scoring a game-high 27 points and reaching the 1,000-point plateau for her career during the Blue Devils’ 70-55 victory.

Brown, a 5-foot-10 sophomore forward, added 16 rebounds and five assists. Khloe Nicholson scored 12 points and had six steals, while Longcor finished with nine points and six assists and Cameron Byquist had eight points and 11 rebounds.

Quincy (18-10) will wrap up the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday with a Western Big 6 Conference matchup with Moline at the QHS gym.

Hannibal went 1 of 10 from the field during the game’s first four minutes and never drew closer than five points thereafter. Junior point guard Malia Stolte scored 27 points to lead the Pirates (10-9).
