QUINCY — Wyatt Boeing saved the best for last.

The Quincy High School wrestling team went into the final match of its dual with Fort Madison (Iowa) on Thursday night trailing by a point in the team score. It made the math simple — the winner of the match won the dual for his respective team.

Boeing sent the partisan Blue Devil crowd inside the QHS gym home happy.

His pin of the Bloodhounds’ Gavyn Siemens in 3 minutes, 10 seconds at 113 pounds gave the Blue Devils a 40-35 victory in their first home dual of the season.

Quincy won three of the first four matches Dom Deming scored a pin in 1:17 at 120 pounds, Eli Roberts won 9-3 at 132 pounds and Brody Baker recorded a pin in 2:37 at 138 pounds.

The teams split the next four matches — the Bloodhounds’ Nolan Riddle (145) and Aidan Pennock (152) won by technical fall and pin, respectively, before the Blue Devils’ Owen Uppinghouse (160) won by pin and Max Miller (170) won a major decision.

Fort Madison took three of the next four matches with Quincy’s Gavin Schumacher scoring a 7-3 decision at 120. That gave the Bloodhounds a 35-28 lead.

Quincy sophomore Hugh Sharrow won by forfeit at 106 pounds, setting up Boeing’s clinching performance.
