COLUMBIA, Mo. — Three weeks after its season was scheduled to begin, the Quincy High School boys tennis team finally got on the court Saturday.

The delay didn’t deter the Blue Devils from coming out ready.

Quincy won two of its three duals against a trio of Mid-Missouri schools and Will Hanlin went 6-0 on the day, winning three matches at No. 1 singles and teaming with Surya Reddy to win three matches at No. 1 doubles.

The Blue Devils beat Columbia Hickman 6-3 and Capital City 7-2 before falling to Columbia Rock Bridge 5-4.

Against Hickman, the Blue Devils and Kewpies split the six singles matches with Quincy’s Trevor Nelson surviving with a 9-8 victory at No. 2. The Blue Devils swept the doubles matches Preston Trinh and Ethan Stark winning 8-1 at No. 3.

Against Capital City, the Blue Devils again swept the doubles matches as Hanlin an Reddy won 8-3. In singles play, Hanlin won 8-2 at No. 1 and the bottom three in the lineup — No. 4 Jason Darian, No. 5 Trinh and No. 6 — each won.

Against Rock Bridge, the Blue Devils and Bruins split the singles with Hanlin winning 8-3, Darian outlasting his opponent 9-8, and Stark winning 8-5. Hanlin and Reddy won 8-1 in doubles, but the Bruins won the other two matches to win the dual.

The Blue Devils play their first home match Tuesday against Macomb at the Greeman Tennis Center in Reservoir Park.
