QUINCY — The Quincy High School girls soccer team capitalized when it had the opportunities.

Quincy Notre Dame and Hannibal did not.

Thus, the Blue Devils exited the weekend with a pair of shutout victories, having taken a couple of significant steps in their journey to be a postseason contender.

In the final game of the QHS Kickoff Classic at Flinn Stadium on Saturday afternoon, the Blue Devils picked up a goal in each half and scored a 2-0 victory over Ladue Horton Watkins.

A little less than 13 minutes into the first half, QHS midfielder Rian Moore won a long ball and played it through to Taylor Routh running in from the right wing behind the Ladue defense. Routh tucked the ball into the corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Breighlyn Thomas scored off an assist from Bri Lannerd.

Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Fohey and the defense picked up their third consecutive shutout as the Blue Devils improved to 3-1.

At Advance Physical Therapy Field, QND played to a pair of scoreless draws against Ladue and Westminster. Both games featured a lot of play in the midfield and Raiders goalkeepers Aly Young and Addison Van Hecke combining on the shutouts.

Hannibal suffered a 6-0 loss to Westminster in the first game played at Flinn Stadium.
