Blue Devils score seven-stroke victory at Redbird Classic with Gold, Geisendorfer in top three
METAMORA, Ill. — The Quincy High School girls golf team appears ready to make another run at a state tournament berth.
The Blue Devils posted two of the top three individual scores and took first place Wednesday in the ninth annual Redbird Classic at Metamora Fields. QHS posted a 320 team score to distance itself from second-place Peoria Notre Dame by seven strokes. Macomb finished fourth with a 343.
Quincy sophomore Sophia Gold finished second individually, shooting an even-par 71. PND’s Ella Coulter took medalist honors with a 1-under 70. QHS junior Saya Geisendorfer was third with a 3-over 74.
Macomb’s Trinity Christensen tied for seventh at 80, and the Bombers’ Ainsley Holthaus was ninth with an 81. Quincy’s Maddie O’Brien finished 11th, shooting a career-low 84.
