Blue Devils challenge Metro East’s best runners, advance to sectionals

NORMAL, Ill. — Fiker Rosen and Anna Schuering led the pack the way they have all season for the Quincy High School boys and girls cross country teams.

The Blue Devils are headed to sectionals thanks to that.

QHS finished third in the team standings in both the boys and girls races Saturday in the Class 3A Normal Community Regional at Maxwell Park. The Blue Devils will host next Saturday’s sectional at Bob Mays Park.

On the boys side, the Blue Devils finished with 84 points. Edwardsville won the regional championship with 45 points, and O’Fallon was second with 67.

Rosen, a senior, took second individually in 15 minutes, 29.2 seconds. Edwardsville’s Ryan Watts won the regional title in 15:23.8. Quincy junior Eric McClelland was 11th in 16:22.9, while sophomore Thomas Hess was 20th (16:43.9) and senior Ayden Triplett was 21st (16:45.5).

In the girls race, Schuering, a senior, took third in 18:14.1 as the Blue Devils finished with 87 points. Edwardsville doubled up its team championships, finishing with 48 points, while O’Fallon was second with 66.

Quincy junior Alexandria Meyers was ninth in 19:08.4, while sophomore Olivia Schuering was 11th in 19:09.6.
