Blue Devils able to overcome Chargers’ success in sprint events to win Quincy Invitational boys meet
QUINCY — The Quincy High School boys track team’s strength in the distance events and overall depth enabled it to overcome Illini West’s sprinters and win the team title at the 73rd Quincy Invitational on Saturday at Flinn Stadium.
The Blue Devils’ Cameron MacDonough won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 6.59 seconds and Thomas Hess captured the 1,600 run in 4:48.74, while the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams won races as well. Quincy’s Jason Percy won the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters.
It enabled QHS to pile up 131 team points. Illini West finished second with 115.5 and Camp Point Central was third with 105.
The Chargers’ Ian Bentzinger won the 100 dash (11.13) and Coleman Gilpin won the 400 dash (55.91), while the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams won titles.
Liberty’s Keegan Sunde won the 200 dash in 23.24 and finished second in the 100 dash (11.40), while the Eagles’ Lane Obert won the 3,200 run in 10:32.17. Liberty’s Tanner Gimm won the discus with a toss of 43.83 meters and Tate Huber won the long jump with a leap of 6.24 meters.
Central’s Zack Wear won the 110 hurdles in 16.77, while Macomb’s Kyler Glaue won the 300 hurdles in 44.01.
In the field events, Payson Seymour’s Mason Haden won the high jump, clearing 1.70 meters. Macomb’s Kylan McMillan won the triple jump with a leap of 11.85 meters. Rushville-Industry’s Ephriam Vuwa won the shot put with a toss of 14.55 meters.
