GENESEO, Ill. — The Quincy High School boys tennis team made its lead last at the Western Big 6 Conference championships despite the continued dominance of Rock Island Alleman junior Nick Patrick.

The Blue Devils placed two singles players in top four and the doubles tandem of Anderson Knapp and Jason Derian finished third, giving them enough team points to share the conference title with Alleman.

Both squads finished with 14 points with Moline in third with 10 points. Patrick, who is a two-time state champion, won the WB6 singles championship and has yet to lose a set in three seasons. QHS’s Ethan Stark was third in singles with teammate Trevor Nelson taking fourth.

Chargers carry hot streak into postseason

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Illini West baseball denied Hannibal the chance to reach the 20-victory plateau for the first time in school history while continuing to build postseason momentum with a 7-2 victory Saturday at the Veterans Sports Complex.

The Chargers (25-4) have won eight consecutive games.

Tied at 2 going to the sixth inning, Illini West got four consecutive singles to open the inning, leading to Ethan Carlisle scoring the go-head run on Carter Chapin’s knock. A fielder’s choice plated the second run of the inning before Wesley Robertson and Stephen Sparks sandwiched run-scoring sacrifice flies around Shawn Watkins Jr.’s RBI single.

Colby Robertson doubled and had two hits for Illini West, which collected 12 hits against Hannibal’s Kane Wilson. Waylon Anders had two hits for the Pirates (19-14), who were held to three hits by Nick Bruns and Carlisle.

Pleasant Hill wins 11-inning affair

CARLINVILLE, Ill. — Ava Wombles scored on an error with two outs in the top of the 11th inning Saturday, lifting the Pleasant Hill softball team to a 1-0 victory over Carlinville. Wombles grounded into a fielder’s choice after Maddison Daniels led off the 11th by drawing a walk.

Kaitlyn Borrowman followed with another groundout, but an error on the Carlinville third baseman allowed Wombles to score.

The Cavies collected back-to-back one-out singles in the bottom of the 11th, but a popout led to a game-ending double play. McKinley Lowe picked up the victory for the Wolves, striking out 10, walking one and scattering eight hits. Wombles, Jade Peebles and Hannah Hill each had one of Pleasant Hill’s three hits.
