Area Distributors Area Athlete of the Week: Quincy Notre Dame’s Lia Quintero
No Quincy Notre Dame girls tennis player in program history has medaled at the state tournament.
Lia Quintero is inching closer to being the first.
The QND junior won a fourth-round consolation match last Friday at the Class 1A girls state tennis tournament at Fremd High School in Palatine, pushing her into the top 16 singles players in the bracket. She was eliminated with a 7-5, 6-2 loss to Danville’s Lexi Ellis, but her 3-2 record is a sign her game is continually evolving and improving.
Quintero ended up one victory shy of a medal and will have one more chance to make history next fall.
Her effort and success earned her the Area Distributors Area Athlete of the Week honor.
