QUINCY — All-state soccer honors are family traditions in the Anderson and Venvertloh households.

The youngest brothers made sure tradition didn’t falter.

Quincy Notre Dame senior forward Tanner Anderson and Quincy High School senior midfielder Carter Venvertloh recently were named to the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association all-state team, becoming the second and third members of their respective families to earn such an honor.

Anderson, who led the Raiders to the Class 1A state championship with a 19-6-2 record and a 4-1 victory over Belleville Althoff in the title game, is a two-time all-state selection, just like his older brother, Seth.

Now a starting forward at Saint Louis University, Seth Anderson earned all-state honors in 2019 and 2020-21 while becoming the Raiders’ all-time leading goal scorer. Tanner Anderson, who will officially sign with SLU on Wednesday, broke his brother’s record seven games into this season and became the first player from either Quincy prep program to score 100 career goals.

Anderson also is a two-time All-Midwest Region selection and has been invited to play in the 12th annual High School All-American Game, taking place December 10 in Panama City Beach, Fla. Anderson is one of three players from Illinois who will play on the West team.

Despite missing five games late in the regular season with a hip injury, Anderson finished with 35 goals and 14 assists as a senior, giving him 100 career goals and 45 career assists. He had back-to-back seasons with 35 goals, which ties his brother for the second most in a single season in program history.

QND went 65-23-6 during Anderson’s four varsity seasons.

Venvertloh led the Blue Devils to a share of the Western Big 6 Conference championship — the 29th league title in program history — and a 12-9-1 record. He scored 32 goals and dished out nine assists, while also tying the single-game school record with five goals. It is the highest single-season goal-scoring total since Jaeden Smith scored 30 goals as a junior in 2017.

Venvertloh’s older brothers both were all-state selections — Zach in 2008 and Ethan in 2010.

Venvertloh has not made a college decision.

Three Quincy defenders earned all-sectional honors. Quincy Notre Dame senior center backs Jake Hoyt and Colin Kukr were joined by Quincy High School junior wingback Biruk Rosen.

Receiving honorable mention all-sectional was QHS senior defender Evan Altman.

Altman and QND defensive midfielder Deakon Schuette were academic all-sectional honorees, while Hoyt and QHS senior forward Boen Brockmiller received all-sectional sportsmanship honors.
