QUINCY — All of the miles traveled and nights spent in hotels gave former Quincy University first baseman Lance Logsdon and his teammates the opportunity to watch plenty of movies, which made him the right person to join Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman to rank their favorite baseball movies for this episode of “The List.”

Take a listen and tell us which movies belong and which you’d put on your list.

The weekly podcast debuted last week with Quincy High School boys basketball coach Andy Douglas joining Schuckman to rank their favorite University of Illinois men’s basketball players of all-time, and the reaction was widespread.

Adam McNett, a former QHS basketball player, offered to share a story his grandfather, former QHS football coach and athletic director Bill Gross, told about Illini great Dike Eddleman. Several people took to social media to chime in that local and regional products like Bruce Douglas and Andy Kaufmann top their lists, and one Collinsville fan was disappointed we didn’t mention Richard Keene.

The most extensive and detailed list came from Gary Peterson, an 86-year-old Quincy resident who grew up in Oneida, graduated from the University of Illinois and moved to Quincy in 1964. He has been a QHS season ticket holder since 1967.

As far as naming his top 10 Illini, Peterson said “I cannot list just 10 when I have followed the ILLINI now into my eighth decade of ILLINI fandom.”

So some of the names he threw out there included Paul Judson and Manny Jackson from the late 1950s, Dave Downey and Donnie Freeman from the 1960s and Nick Weatherspoon and Eddie Johnson from the 1970s. Doug Altenberger made his list from the 1980s, as well as Bruce Douglas.

It was the most comprehensive and widespread list anyone submitted.

Feel free to chime in with your lists on your favorite Illini or this week’s topic of favorite baseball movies. All current and previous episodes of “This List” can be found at Muddy River TV+.
