Schuckman receives IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award

QUINCY – Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman received his Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Distinguished Media Service Award Saturday night at Quincy Notre Dame HIgh School.

QND had nominated Schuckman for the award for his long-term excellence in covering high school and college sports in West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri. IHSA Assistant Executive Director Sam Knox, a long-time friend of Schuckman’s, presented him with the award before the varsity boys basketball game between Quincy Notre Dame and Quincy High School.

Schuckman, a Quincy native and Quincy High School graduate, wrote for The Quincy Herald-Whig from 1999 to 2021. He then became the editor of Muddy River Sports.

Schuckman has won numerous awards for his writing from the Illinois Press Association, the Illinois Associated Press Media Editors, the Missouri Press Association, and the Associated Press Sports Editors during his career. He is a member of the Quincy Blue Devil Sports and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Halls of Fame.
