Schuck on a Truck Zoom Edition: Highland Shootout organizer Matt Powers
Matt Powers grew up in Quincy and was a senior on the 1996-97 Quincy Notre Dame boys basketball team, which was the first coached by Scott Douglas in his legendary career. Now, aside from running his own financial planning and investment firm, Powers is the organizer of the Highland Shootout, one of the premier one-day high school basketball showcases in the Midwest.
The Highland Shootout is celebrating its 30th year in 2022 with a star-studded lineup of teams from Illinois and the St. Louis metro area. The event takes place January 8 at Highland High School with a limited number of tickets still available through the event’s website at highlandshootout.com.
Powers recently sat down for a “Schuck of a Truck Zoom Edition” interview with Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman to discuss his roots, the shootout and the work that goes in to pulling it off each year.
