CARROLLTON, Ill. — Football is in Cody Leonard’s blood. Try as he might to turn the page to the next chapter of his life, the former Quincy University All-American linebacker couldn’t ditch the itch to continue playing.

Now, he has that opportunity.

Leonard has signed a professional contract to play with the Kuopio Steelers in Finland. He leaves in March to begin the adjustment to life overseas and training camp with the season set to begin in May. He’s currently back home in Carrollton, working out daily while also officiating junior high and high school basketball games and spending time with his family before his departure.

During his senior season in 2018, Leonard established single-season QU and Great Lakes Valley Conference records with 168 total tackles and 15.3 tackles per game. He led NCAA Division II in both total tackles and solo tackles with 88, garning first-team All-American honors as well as being named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year.

He finished his career with 376 total tackles and 223 solo tackles.
