Schuck on a Truck: Andrew Smith discusses making two aces in 10-day span

QUINCY — When Andrew Smith realized he’d made his first hole-in-one, nearly every golfer scattered across the Spring Lake Country Club layout knew it.

“I just jumped out of the golf cart while it was going 15 miles per hour,” Smith said.

When he made his second ace 10 days later, the reaction was a little more muted, but the celebration was just as emphatic.

“Fortunately, Spring Lake has kind of a hole-in-one insurance program,” Smith said.

What Smith did — two aces in both a 10-day and a 36-hole span at Spring Lake — is incredibly rare. He made the first on the par-33 11th hole using an 8-iron on June 20. The second came on the par-3 18th hole using a 7-iron on June 30.

According to the National Hole-In-One Registry, each course reports 10-15 hole in ones each year, a hole-in-one is scored once every 3,500 golf rounds, the odds of making a hole-in-one are 1:3500, and only 1-2% of golfers score a hole-in-one during the year.

Smith sat down with Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman to discuss his good fortune. Check out their conversation during the latest episode of “Schuck on a Truck.”
