Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman began covering the Quincy High School boys basketball program during the 1998-99 season, and since he recently wrapped up his 25th season following the Blue Devils, he put together a list of his 25 most memorable games. Here is today’s installment:

December 30, 2015 — Quincy 57, Lincoln 38

QUINCY — Jake Jobe should consider himself lucky.

He wouldn’t find his name listed among those holding Quincy High School boys basketball program records if Andy Douglas had followed through on his initial thought.

Playing Lincoln in the third-place game of the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Classic on Dec. 30, 2015, Jobe caught fire from the perimeter, making eight 3-pointers by the midpoint of the fourth quarter to break the Blue Devils’ single-game record.

But he wasn’t quite done, thanks mainly to Douglas’ hesitation.

During the closing minutes of the 57-38 victory, Jobe threw an errant, ill-advised one-handed pass that infuriated Douglas and the entire coaching staff. For a moment, Douglas thought about pulling his senior guard, but play continued before he made a move.

“I remember being really irritated because we didn’t need a pass like that at that time,” Douglas said. “He was lucky I let him stay in the game.”

Moments later, Jobe hit his ninth trey. With 1 minute, 36 seconds remaining in regulation, he hit his final trey, establishing the new school record and the tournament record with 10 3-pointers. Jobe went 10 of 13 from 3-point range and finished with a career-high 33 points.

He broke the record shared by Kyle Cartmill and Zach Forbes. Cartmill his seven 3-pointers against Moline during the 1992-93 season, while Forbes hit seven treys against Hinsdale South during the 2009-10 season.

Jobe is tied with two others for the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Classic tournament 3-point record with 19 made over the four games. Peoria Central’s Bob Anderson made 19 in 1996 and Edwardsville’s Oliver Stephens made 19 in 2016.

Prior to his record-setting performance, Jobe’s season and career high had been five 3-pointers, which he did against Decatur Eisenhower in the tournament’s opening game two days prior. He finished the season averaging 13.1 points per game with 62 made 3-pointers, which ranks third in school history behind Jeremiah Talton’s 104 3-pointers during the 2021-22 season and Douglas’ 68 3-pointers during the 1999-2000 season.
