2022 Quincy Notre Dame Hall of Fame inductee: Shannon (Foley) Venvertloh, athlete

Editor’s Note: Quincy Notre Dame will hold its Hall of Fame induction at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday between games of the 2022 Gully Transportation Tip-Off Shootout at The Pit.

QUINCY — Shannon (Foley) Venvertloh played different roles in different sports — goal scorer in soccer, defensive standout in volleyball and playmaker in basketball. She played each role well enough to be a member of a state championship team in all three sports.

Venvertloh, a 2012 Quincy Notre Dame graduate, scored 100 career goals in soccer, third-best in school history, and a school-record 74 career assists. She had 38 goals as a senior and twice was named all-state. She scored in a 2-0 victory over Manteno in the 2010 Class 1A state championship game. She scored a record four goals in the 2012 Class 1A semifinal victory over Richmond-Burton, and the Raiders went on to capture another title.

Venvertloh was the starting point guard on back-to-back state championship teams. As a senior, Foley led the Raiders with 126 assists while scoring 5.6 points per game. As a junior, she was second on the Raiders with 85 assists. She also was a member of the 2009-10 team that finished second in the state when she was a sophomore.

As the libero, Venvertloh was a dominant defensive presence as a senior when the Raiders went 29-9 and won the Class 2A state title in 2011. A second-team all-state selection, she averaged 20.3 digs per match during the postseason and set a state championship match record with 29 digs. She led the area in digs with 478. She was named the Player of the Year for volleyball by The Herald-Whig as a senior.

Venvertloh was the WGEM Female Athlete of the Year in 2012. She went on to play soccer at Maryville University, where she left as the school’s leader in goals scored at the NCAA Division II level.

Venvertloh lives in Phoenix with her husband Zachary and their son Cruz. She works for Solace Health Care as an occupational therapist.
