QUINCY — Sometimes saying “thank you” just isn’t enough.

A hearty bowl of jambalaya says it better.

Thursday night, the Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fishermen’s Association threw a tailgate party at Kessler Park to show their appreciation for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crew that is dredging the Quincy Bay.

That included treating the workers, many of whom are from the South, to some homemade jambalaya, along with hot dogs, fried fish and a Quincy staple in maid-rites. The hunters and anglers understand how valuable a resource the Quincy Bay for habitat and access to the main channel of the Mississippi River.

So far, more than 27,000 cubic yards of debris and material have been removed from the Quincy Bay. This phase in the bay restoration project will be finished by the end of August
