Illinois Department of Natural Resources to hold hunter safety courses in Adams County

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring two hunter safety education courses in Adams County this fall.

The first course takes place August 20-21 at the Paloma Community Building in Paloma, while the second course is scheduled for September 17-18 at the Twin Oaks Club on Bonansinga Drive in Quincy.

These are 10-hour courses, running 6-10 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. A lunch break will be provided during Saturday’s class.

The course is free to all attendees with course materials provided. Completion of the course is required to purchase a hunting license in Illinois. Anyone under 10 years old must be accompanied by a guardian.

Certified volunteers with teach hunter ethics and responsibility, wildlife conservation and management, first aid and survival techniques, state regulations, and tree stand safety. They also will introduce all attendees to handguns, rifles, shotguns and archery.
