Wiseman, Cardinals get season off to right start with opening kick return for touchdown
SHELBINA, Mo. — The South Shelby football team wasted no time asserting itself.
Cameron Wiseman returned the game’s opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown and the Cardinals rolled from there, beating Milan 47-6 Friday night in the season opener.
Fullback Kendal Hammond powered the offense, rushing for 194 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries, while Wiseman carried the ball five times for 79 yards and a touchdown. Wiseman also caught one pass for 33 yards.
South Shelby quarterback Chase Moellering completed 5 of 5 passes for 51 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 76 yards in his first career start. Hammond racked up 11 tackles and four tackles for loss as the Cardinals invoked the mercy rule running clock.
