PALMYRA, Mo. — The Palmyra boys basketball team showed its depth and firepower in Friday night’s season-opening 74-58 victory over Clopton.

Sophomore guard Hudson Bock scored a game-high 22 points, while senior forward Mason Smith scored 12 of his 16 points in the first half in his Palmyra debut. The Panthers got to the free-throw line 39 times with the aggressive attack.

Meanwhile, the Palmyra girls basketball team opened with a 62-45 loss to Clopton, a team coming off a state quarterfinal appearance and legitimate final four aspirations this season. Senior guard Clare Williams led the Panthers with 17 points.
