Shutout pushes Hannibal girls soccer team into district semifinals
ST. PETERS, Mo. — The records continue to fall, and the reason for it could be what carries the Hannibal girls soccer team to a district championship.
The Pirates have great chemistry.
It was on display Saturday in the Class 3 District 4 opener. Five different players scored and freshman goalkeeper Ava Turner posted her record-setting 17th shutout as third-seeded Hannibal dispatched sixth-seeded Warrenton 6-0 at Fort Zumwalt South High School.
The Pirates (21-4) will face second-seeded Duchesne (15-2) at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the district semifinals. Top-seeded Fort Zumwalt South and fourth-seeded Fort Zumwalt East meet in the other semifinal. The championship is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Senior forward Bella Falconer gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead when she scored midway through the first half, and Hannibal took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Falconer scored twice, giving her a single-season record 47 goals, and Ashley Davis scored twice. Abbie Martin had a goal and an assist, while Addie Wright added a goal and Katie Greening had an assist.
The Pirates’ 21 victories also is a single-season school record.
