Sharpe leads Highland girls to sectional track title, area brigade heads to state track championships
MOKANE, Mo. — Highland sophomore Chevie Sharpe success at the middle distances has landed her and her teammates at the Class 2 girls state track and field championships.
Sharpe won the 400-meter dash at Saturday’s Class 2 sectional at South Callaway High School and helped the Cougars take first place in three relay races, earning state berths in each event. The track championships take place May 17-18 at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City.
The Cougars won the sectional team championship.
Sharpe won the 400 dash in 59.31, while South Shelby’s Callie McWilliams was second in 1:00.93.
Mark Twain won the 4×100 relay in 51.22 with Highland placing third in 52.12. Highland won the 4×200 relay in 1:48.06 with Mark Twain third in 1:49.38. The Cougars won the 4×400 relay in 4:15.57 as South Shelby took second in 4:16.36.
Highland, Monroe City and South Shelby finished 1-2-3 in the 4×800 relay with the Cougars running a 10:12.76, the Panthers posting a 10.19.76 and the Lady Birds finishing in 10:22.96.
Monroe City freshman Bradi Keller won the 1,600 run in 5:42.96, while South Shelby’s Abigail Osborn was third in 5:52.26. Keller also won the 3,200 run in 13:00.96 with Osborn finishing second in 13:12.61.
South Shelby’s Kamryn Mitchell was third in the 100 hurdles in 17.05 with Mark Twain’s Amaris Melvin fourth in 17.56. Mitchell took second in the 300 hurdles in 49.62 with Melvin third in 49.66.
Mark Twain’s Ella Moss was second in the long jump, hitting 16 feet, 2.25 inches. South Shelby’s Sofia Eleazarraraz was third at 15-11.75. McWilliams won the triple jump with a leap of 36-5.75, while Moss was fourth at 35-0.5.
Moss also was third in the 100 dash in 13.09.
Mark Twain’s Jenna Ross was second in the 200 dash in 26.41.
In the field events, Monroe City’s Timia Reinberg won the discus with a toss of 133-7, while teammate Samantah Hathaway was third at 107-3 and Highland’s Dallis Dare was fourth at 106-3. In the javelin, Highland’s Bailie Crist was third with a toss of 112-7.
Highland’s Addy Abell was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 8-9.5.
