Second-half comeback by Lady Birds highlights solid efforts by area teams at Moberly Shootout

MOBERLY, Mo. — The state-ranked South Shelby and Highland girls basketball teams put the strength of the Clarence Cannon Conference on display Saturday.

Trailing by 12 points at halftime, the Lady Birds rallied for a 52-44 victory over California in the Peak Sport and Spine Holiday Shootout at Moberly Area Community College. Callie McWilliams scored a game-high 17 points for South Shelby (9-0), while Belle Roush added 12 points.

Meanwhile, the Cougars held Higbee scoreless in the second quarter of a 40-25 victory. Keera Rothweiler led Highland (10-1) with 13 points. The Highland boys suffered a 54-38 loss to Higbee, while the South Shelby boys fell 73-47 to Hallsville.

The Canton girls scored a 45-31 victory over Hallsville as Kenna Oliver, Chayse Ulhmeyer and Macy Glasgow each scored 10 points.
