NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. — Quinn Thomas’ chance to keep himself in position for a four-peat as a state golf champion faded away Tuesday.

The Hannibal sophomore, who was the defending Class 4 state titleist, struggled navigating the Meadow Lake Acres Country Club course as he shot an 11-over 83 in the final round of the Class 4 tournament and finished tied for 23rd at 16-over 160.

Thomas got his day started with a birdie on No. 1, and despite following it with three straight bogeys, he managed to birdie the par-5 fifth hole. A double bogey on No. 6 and a bogey on No. 9 left him at 4-over 40 on the front nine. Thomas began the back nine by playing the first five holes in 5-over.

Bolivar’s Aiden Asby shot a 1-under 71 and finished at even-par 144 to win the individual state championship. He beat Lutheran South’s Andrew Hennen by a stroke.

Webster Groves won the team with a two-day total of 639.
