PALMYRA, Mo. — The work the Palmyra football players have invested into becoming a more physical team is paying significant dividends.

Friday night, it paved the way to Clarence Cannon Conference whitewashing of Macon.

The Panthers churned out more than 440 yards on the ground with a dominant effort from the 1-2 punch of Landon Carroll and Wyatt Augspurg out of the backfield to pick up a 56-14 victory in. the CCC opener. Palmyra is 2-1 overall and continually improving, which is one of the reasons second-year coach Dalton Hill is excited to see how the remaining six weeks of the regular season unfold.

“What I preach is we have to win the LOS (line of scrimmage),” Hill said. “Obviously, we want to be extremely technical up front. We want to play extremely hard. We want to be physical.”

By doing so, it allowed Carroll and Augspurg to run wild. They combined for seven rushing touchdowns with Carroll churning out four scores in the first half.

“Paired together they’re a nasty mix,” Hill said. “it’s kind of like a double-headed monster back there. They do a really, really good job of finding the seams in the defense.”
