Palmyra takes second at district golf tourney, advances to Class 2 state tournament

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Palmyra boys golf team is headed to the Class 2 state tournament.

The Panthers posted a 327 team score to finish second Monday in the Class 2 District 2 tournament at Norwoods Golf Club to qualify for the state tournament as a team, edging Centralia by one stroke. Hermann won the district with a 319.

The state tournament will be played May 13-14 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo.

Palmyra’s Jonas Janes finished second individually with a 4-over 76 and Skeeter Kroeger was third with a 5-over 77 to pace the Panthers. Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl took medalist honors with a 5-under 67. Palmyra’s Preston Fuget was 13th with an 84, while Abram Getz shot a 90 and Anthony White posted a 97.

Qualifying for the state tournament as individuals were South Shelby’s Waylen Owens, who shot an 82, Cole Schmitz, who shot an 83, and Eli Hatcher, who shot an 87, as well as Monroe City’s Cole Hays with an 85.
