Monroe City, Mo. — It was over almost as soon as it started.

The Monroe City Panthers made a statement right out of the gate, marching down the field on every possession they had in the first half, and picking up a 52-0 win over the Mark Twain Tigers at Lankford Field to win their first district title since 2017.

The Panthers (11-1) picked up 486 yards of offense in the first half. The second half started with a running clock and Monroe City played its second team offense after halftime. Joshua Talton led the attack with 10 carries for 222 yards and four touchdowns.

The Tigers (10-2) were only able to manage 88 yards of offense and they committed five turnovers.

Monroe City will make the 300-mile trek to Missouri’s Bootheel next Saturday as they travel to Hayti, who manhandled Scott City 48-15.

And in an odd coincidence, Monroe City and Hayti have each scored 168 points in their three playoff wins, an average of 56 a game.

Highlights below and the David Kirby postgame on 107.5 The Lake. Kirby gets pretty emotional as he talks about the late Jamar White, the former Monroe City star who was killed in a car accident a little more than two years ago.
