Liquor Booth Shot of the Game: Moss makes two clutch free throws to lift Panthers
MONROE CITY, Mo. — The first free throw was pure. The second didn’t go quite as planned.
Still, Mackenzie Moss gave the Monroe City girls basketball team the advantage it needed to snare a 36-34 victory over Hannibal last Friday night.
Fouled with 2.3 seconds remaining in regulation and the game tied at 34, the Panthers senior calmly sank the first free throw to give Monroe City the lead. The plan was to miss the second one so the clock would run and Hannibal would have to scramble for a final shot.
Instead, Moss’ free throw hit hard off the backboard, caught the front of the rim and found a way to fall through the net. Hannibal wasn’t able to do anything with the inbounds play as Monroe City held on for the victory.
Those free throws are this week’s Liquor Booth Shoot of the game.
