Liquor Booth Shot of the Game: Monroe City’s Talton beats Liberty at end of second overtime
QUINCY — Time running down, game on the line and the Monroe City boys basketball team has the possession.
Who gets the ball? All-state senior guard Joshua Talton of course.
“We took a timeout and everyone was saying, ‘Get it to Josh and he’s going to make a play,’” Panthers senior guard Kyle Hays said. “And he did.”
Trailing Liberty with 19.8 seconds remaining in the second overtime last Saturday night in the marquee game of the SuperFan Shootout at Quincy Notre Dame’s The Pit, Talton took an inbounds pass on the left wing, beat the Eagles’ Logan Robbins to the right, drove hard into a triangle of defenders and banked in the left-handed shot for the 54-53 lead.
Liberty wasn’t able to answer and Monroe City walked out of a state-ranked showdown with the victory.
“I’m very confident,” Talton said of having the ball in late-game situations. “I was telling the guys in the locker room, ‘Give me three chances and I’m going to get it.”
Talton’s shot is this week’s Liquor Booth Shot of the Game.
