Liquor Booth Shot of the Game: Canton’s Clay belts game-tying home run

CANTON, Mo. — Trailing by a run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning of the championship game of the Monroe City Tournament last Saturday, the Canton softball team needed a jolt.

Nariah Clay delivered.

Facing an 0-1 count after swinging and missing at the first pitch from Panthers hurler Kailynn Fuemmeler, Clay smashed a line drive over the fence in straightaway center field to tie the game. Allie Ruffcorn’s two-out single in the top of the seventh plated the winning run as the fifth-seeded Tigers picked up a 3-2 victory and the title.

Clay went 3 for 9 with four RBIs, five runs scored, two home runs and a double in the tournament’s three games, but her game-tying home run against Monroe City is this week’s Liquor Booth Shot of the Game.
