Highland QB Drew Mallett scrambles against the Palmyra defense.

EWING, Mo. – The Highland Cougars are back in the hunt in the Clarence Cannon Conference.

After getting shellshocked in Centralia last week. Highland responded in a big way Friday night with a 24-20 win over Palmyra.

The Cougars (5-2, 3-2 CCC) control their own destiny and could possibly still grab at least a share of the conference crown, but it won’t be easy with Brookfield and Monroe City coming up over the next two weeks. Monroe City lost to Brookfield last week, but got back in the win column over Macon 58-38 on Friday night.

“It’s never easy in the CCC,” Highland coach Dave Degarmo said. “We played well on both sides of the ball tonight and made some stops when we had to.”

Highland Quarterback Drew Mallett tossed three touchdown passes to lead the Cougar offense.

Palmyra lost starting quarterback Collin Arch to an injury in the second half. Tight End Adam Goodwin moved under center and while he was able to generate yards on the ground along with bruising running back Nolyn Richards, the Panther passing attack wasn’t as effective.

The highlights and scoring summary are in the video below along with Degarmo addressing his team after the game.
