Hannibal’s Wilson, JWCC signee Schmidt receive honorable mention all-state plaudits

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Kane Wilson’s record-setting season didn’t go unnoticed by prep baseball coaches around the state.

The Hannibal junior shortstop was named as an honorable mention infielder on the Missouri Baseball Coaches Association Class 5 all-state team. 

Wilson established new single-season program records for hits with 45 and and RBIs with 44 while also breaking the career record for RBIs. He has 89 career RBIs with a season still to play. 

Wilson, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed hitter, hit .395 with 13 doubles, three triples and five home runs. He also scored 28 runs. Moved to first base when Cooper Scott pitched, Wilson committed just four errors defensively.

John Wood Community College signee and South Shelby right-hander P.J. Schmidt was named a Class 3 honorable mention pitcher. Schmidt went 8-0 with one save and a 1.27 ERA. He struck out 86 and walked 12 over 56 ⅓ innings.

South Shelby senior third baseman Lucas Magruder was named a first-team infielder after hitting .513 with 16 doubles, eight home runs and 36 RBIs as the Cardinals went 19-6 and won a district championship.
