HANNIBAL, Mo. — A free class for anyone interested in learning the game of pickleball will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. Equipment will be provided.

Tom Batenhorst, park board president and USA Pickleball ambassador for Marion County, will teach the
class along with other fellow enthusiasts.

Pickleball was first introduced by Hannibal Parks and Recreation officials in 2014 and has grown in
popularity each year. Hannibal has three locations for pickleball play: Admiral Coontz Recreation Center,
Norfolk and Southern Multi-Sports Park and Huckleberry Park.

The recent construction work at Huckleberry Park turned four tennis courts into six pickleball courts and two tennis courts, along with user-activated lights so players can still enjoy the game after dark.
