Crist makes Highland history with third-place finish at Class 1 state golf tournament

SEDALIA, Mo. — A stronger start led to a memorable finish for Highland golfer Morgan Crist.

Crist parred three holes on the front nine Tuesday, navigating the nine-hole stretch in six fewer strokes than she did Monday and setting the stage for her to finish third individually in the Class 1 state tournament at Sedalia Country Club.

Crist shot a 171 total, six strokes behind co-leaders Kameryn Wood of Liberty Mountain View and Rylee Allred of Ash Grove.

Crist is the first girls golfer in Highland history to medal at the state tournament.

Canton’s Hanna Taylor finished in the top 20, shooting a 205 to finish tied for 20th.

Other area scorers were Highland’s Ali Reed tying for 33rd at 211, Canton’s Sonoma Schmitz tying for 42nd at 216, Highland’s Josie Murphy shooting a 236 and Canton’s Sierra Schmitz posting a 244.

At the Class 2 state tournament at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club in Joplin, Palmyra’s Ava Weiman finished 64th with a 222.
