Cardinals’ offense churns out touchdowns in setting up district title showdown with Panthers
SHELBINA, Mo. — When your offense does nothing but score touchdowns, you know you’re in good shape.
South Shelby football coach Adam Gunterman and the Cardinals found themselves there Friday night.
The top-seeded Cardinals’ starting offense scored on all seven possessions in a 48-19 victory over fifth-seeded Macon in the semifinals of the Class 2 District 7 bracket at Charles Rash Memorial Field.
“Up front we were awesome,” said Gunterman, whose team rushed for more than 440 yards. “That all goes to the offensive line. Those guys were really, really good tonight.”
South Shelby quarterback Chase Moellering completed 5 of 6 passes for 97 yards and two scores while also rushing for 75 yards and a score. Preston Elsen finished with 117 yards two touchdowns, and Pryce Eagan had 175 yards rushing and a touchdown.
The victory sets up a marquee showdown with second-seed Monroe City next Friday night in Shelbina. The Panthers advanced with a 48-8 victory over Clark County.
“They are going to be one of the hungriest teams in the state of Missouri,” Gunterman said of Monroe City. “No. 1, we have to do what we do. We have to make sure we stay within ourselves. We have to match their intensity. They’re going to come in on fire.”
