Canton’s Brewer, Palmyra’s Bock, South Shelby’s McWilliams earn District Player of the Year honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. — The state runner-up Canton boys basketball team is reaping the rewards of its success.
The Tigers had three players named to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 2 District 6 all-district team with senior forward Preston Brewer being named the District 10 Player of the Year and Tigers coach Dalton Armontrout receiving District 10 Coach of the Year plaudits.
Brewer averaged 25.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game as the Tigers finished 25-6 with the best state tournament finish in program history. He was joined on the all-district team by senior forward Tyler Frazier, who averaged 8.8 points, and junior forward Kaden Oliver, who averaged 10.1 points.
Palmyra swept the Class 3 District 6 honors as sophomore guard Hudson Bock was named the Player of the Year with Panthers skipper Brian Rea earning Coach of the Year honors.
Joining Bock on the all-district team were Palmyra senior forward Mason Smith and junior guard Ryan McKinnney. Monroe City was represented by senior guard Marty Smyser III, junior guard Quincy Mayfield and junior forward Brent Holland. South Shelby placed two on the all-district team in senior forward Noah Wilt and senior guard Preston Elsen.
In Class 1 District 11, Marion County senior guard Joey Lagemann and senior forward Porter Britt received all-district honors, as did North Shelby senior guard Jade Daniel and sophomore forward Gabe Bowen.
On the girls side, Class 3 District 6 champion South Shelby swept the postseason awards with senior guard Callie McWilliams earning Player of the Year and Luke O’Laughlin being tabbed Coach of the Year after the Lady Birds won their third straight district title.
Joining McWilliams on the all-district team were South Shelby senior forward Belle Roush, Highland junior guard Addy Abell and sophomore guard Keera Rothweiler, Palmyra senior forward Sydney Compton and senior guard Clare Williams, and Monroe City senior forward Audri Youngblood and junior guard Naaron Hays.
Canton senior guard Macy Glasgow led three Tigers named all-district for Class 2 District 6, while Canton coach Danielle Baker was named the District 10 Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to a district title and sectional appearance. Joining Glasgow on the all-district team were sophomore Kenna Oliver and sophomore Chayse Uhlmeyer.
Class 1 District 10 champion North Shelby placed three players on the all-district team — junior guard Hadlee Parsons, junior forward Harper Copenhaver and freshman guard Mallory Griffin — while Raiders coach Chris Parsons was named the DIstrict 10 Coach of the Year.
Marion County junior Aylah Pollard and junior Kennedy Hathaway were all-district selections.
