Canton's Trevor Biggerstaff is tied for fourth at the Class 1 boys state golf championships after posting a 4-over 76 Monday in Joplin, Mo. | Submitted photo

JOPLIN, Mo. — If Trevor Biggerstaff can mimic the way he played on the back nine Monday, the Canton senior will have a legitimate shot at a state championship.

Biggerstaff shot a 2-under 34 on the back nine at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in the opening round of the Class 1 state championships, but the weather took a toll on the front nine as he posted a 6-over 42, leaving him tied for fourth at 4-over 76.

Biggerstaff is tied with Linn’s Jett Maasen, who also shot a 2-under 34 on the back nine and a 6-over 42 on the front. They are chasing St. Vincent’s Payton Strattman, who leads the field at even=par 72.

Biggerstaff is scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Canton’s Avery Uhlmeyer and Van-Far’s Nikos Connoway both shot 92 and are tied for 50th.
