MONROE CITY, Mo. — Mackenzie Moss is on a tear. So is the Monroe City softball team.

The Panthers are riding a three-game winning streak, kept alive by Moss’ late-inning heroics. Trailing Centralia 8-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Monroe City responded with four runs as Moss delivered an RBI single and scored on a passed ball. In the bottom of the sixth, she gave Monroe City the lead for good with a two-out, three-run home run to center field.

Monroe City won 9-8 — the third straight game in which the Panthers have scored six or more runs and Moss has figured prominently in each effort.

She went 2 for 5 with an RBI in a 6-2 victory over Hannibal before going 3 for 3 with two runs scored, two RBIs, a double, a home run and a walk in an 11-1, six-inning victory over South Shelby. She finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored, five RBIs and a home run against Centralia.

That effort has earned Moss the Area Distributors Area Player of the Week honor.

Overall, Moss is hitting .439 with a team-leading 18 RBIs, six doubles and two home runs in 12 games. The Panthers are 7-5.
