Area Distributors Area Athlete of the Week: Monroe City’s Josiah Talton
MONROE CITY, Mo. — Josiah Talton did what a senior leader is supposed to do.
He stepped to the free-throw line and buried the shots to preserve a lead.
And he did it twice in the same week.
In the semifinals of the Clopton Tournament last week, the Monroe City senior guard went 5 of 6 from the line in the fourth quarter of a 58-50 victory over Elsberry. Talton finished 6 of 8 from the line, scored nine of the Panthers’ 16 points in the final quarter and ended up with 15 points.
In the championship game against Winfield, Talton went 7 of 9 from the line in the fourth quarter and was 8 of 10 overall to power the Panthers to a 72-54 victory and the title. He finished with 28 points and was named the tournament MVP.
After a performance like that, Talton earned the Area Distributors Area Athlete of the Week.
