Western, Nauvoo-Colusa seventh grade girls basketball teams to play for state titles
QUINCY — A pair of area seventh grade girls basketball teams will play for Illinois Elementary School Association state championships this week.
Western advanced to the Class 1A title game with a pair of victories Saturday at Assumption Central A&M Middle School, while Nauvoo-Colusa advanced in Class 2A by winning twice at Riverton High School.
In the Class 1A quarterfinals, Western picked up a 21-7 victory over Peoria St. Jude as Cortlynne Malone scored 11 points and Reese Bushmeyer added eight points. In the semifinals, the Wildcats beat Peru Catholic 27-20 as Bushmeyer scored 14 points and Malone added seven.
Western (12-7) will face Washington St. Patrick (27-0) in the state title game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Assumption.
In the Class 2A quarterfinals, Nauvoo-Colusa beat Lewistown 51-35 as Maci Haas scored 20 points and Taylynn Denning added 12. In the semifinals, Nauvoo beat Mount Pulaski 34-29 as Haas had 20 points and Josie Scott added nine.
Nauvoo-Colusa (24-1) will face Springfield Calvary (27-0) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Riverton.
