Three area seventh grade girls basketball teams will play in state quarterfinals Saturday

QUINCY — Three area seventh grade girls basketball teams are headed to their respective Illinois Elementary School Association state tournaments after winning sectional championships Wednesday night.

Brown County won the Class 7-2A sectional at Virginia with a 37-33 overtime victory against Carthage. The Hornets, who improved to 24-0, will face Effingham St. Anthony (20-3) in the state quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Riverton High School. The winner will play in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

In Class 7-1A, both Liberty and LaHarpe are headed to the state tournament at Assumption Central A&M Middle School.

Liberty won the Decatur Unity Christian Sectional with a 28-17 victory over Springfield Christ the King. The Eagles (19-5) will face Oakland Lake Crest (15-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday. The winner plays in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

LaHarpe punched its ticket to state with a 32-19 victory over Cambridge in the sectional at Nauvoo-Colusa Junior High School. LaHarpe (22-3) will play Cissna Park (22-1) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The winner advances to the semifinals at 5 p.m. Saturday.
