The Rundown: QND girls stay undefeated, Brown County girls and boys with statement victories
The Thanksgiving turkey hangover has passed, and area boys and girls basketball teams are looking to find a rhythm to their seasons. Monday night revealed what is possible when teams find their groove. Here are some of the highlights …
• The Quincy Notre Dame girls basketball team improved to 5-0 with a 73-29 victory at Pleasant Hill/Western. Abbey Schreacke led the Raiders with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Sage Stratton added 12 points.
• The Brown County girls basketball team made 13 of 15 free throws in the first half and limited Central-Southeastern to six first-quarter points, winning 51-37. Klare Flynn led the Hornets with 17 points, while Gracie Hedden added 16 points. Lauren Miller led C-SE with 18 points.
• The Brown County boys made it a sweep, overcoming a six-point first quarter for a 54-44 victory over Central as Cole Behymer scored a career-high 29 points. Behymer didn’t score in the first quarter, but outscored the Panthers himself in the second quarter (12-11). Behymer went 9 of 11 from the free-throw line. Sam Carr added 18 points for Brown County.
• Canton’s Nariah Clay scored 18 points to led the Tigers to a 42-30 victory over Monroe City.
• Rylee and Reagan Reed combined for 22 points as the Illini West girls basketball team beat West Hancock 53-39.
