The Rundown: Macomb, Southeastern, Hannibal win important volleyball matches
Prep volleyball is in the final week of the regular season, while college and prep soccer teams are heading toward the postseason. Here’s the rundown of Tuesday’s action:
• The Macomb volleyball team showcased the ability to rally in an 18-25, 25-18, 25-21 victory at Unity. Kennedy Adair and Kathryn Lukkarinen had 10 kills apiece for the Bombers, while Kaitlyn Robinson had 29 assists. Kyra Carothers led the Mustangs with 20 kills, while Kylee Barry had 21 digs and Caroline Knox had 16 assists. Macomb improved to 26-3, while Unity fell to 25-4.
• The Hannibal volleyball team wrapped up the North Central Missouri Conference championship with a 25-21, 25-12, 25-15 victory over Kirksville to wrap up the regular season. The Pirates (19-10-1) finished 8-0 in the NCMC. Ashlynn Hess had 20 assists and 10 digs, while Abbie Martine had seven kills and seven digs and three others — Courtney Locke, Emilia Bates and Nora Hark — had eight kills apiece.
• The Southeastern volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a 30-5 record following a 26-24, 25-12 victory over Illini West. Amanda Stephens had 17 kills and nine assists for the Suns, while Abbey McMillen had eight kills and Abigail Shaffer had 23 assists and three aces. Reagan Reed led the Chargers with 12 kills and eight digs, while Josie Bryan had seven kills, 13 assists and 13 digs. Illini West is 27-7.
• An 8-1 victory over Fulton allowed the Hannibal boys soccer team to improve to 8-1 in the North Central Missouri Conference. Karson Westhoff and Bodie Rollins each had two goals for the Pirates (17-5), while Thomas Janes, DaeShon Glasgow, Drew Porter and Kevin Westhoff had one goal apiece.
• The John Wood Community College men’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Southwestern Illinois College in the regular-season finale. The Trail Blazers (10-6) open region tournament play at Parkland next Tuesday.
