Scoreboard for Wednesday, August 28: Raiders, Blue Devils fall on pitch, golfers go low
Fighting Irish overwhelm Raiders in opener
PEORIA, Ill. — Quincy Notre Dame boys soccer coach Greg Reis and his players were able to see Wednesday night what it’s like to square off with a state title contender and what adjustments they need to become one themselves.
Peoria Notre Dame showcased a relentless attack in a 7-1 victory in the season opener for both teams. The Irish were the Class 2A state runner-up last season after winning the state championship in 2022.
The Irish led 4-0 at halftime, and senior midfielder Rylan Fischer scored the Raiders’ lone goal.
“Now we know what we need to work on moving forward,” Reis said.
QND will get three chances to do that this weekend as it plays host to its own tournament. The Raiders will face Clayton (Mo.) at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Advance Physical Therapy Field and square off with Jacksonville at 10:15 a.m. Saturday and Orchard Farm (Mo.) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Blue Devils fall in opener
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — Concerns over how the Quincy High School boys soccer team will score this season became real Wednesday night in a 2-1 loss to Jacksonville at Alumni Field. The Blue Devils trailed 2-1 before Trace Routh converted a penalty kick late in the second half. Quincy did create multiple chances, but Jacksonville goalkeeper Briar Miller made seven saves.

The boys played the back nine with Jacksonville Routt posting a 179 for the team title. Liberty shot a 182, while Brown County and Payson Seymour both posted a 196 and Western shot a 198. Liberty’s Reed Sparrow and Western’s Alex Peters each shot a 43, while Payson Seymour’s Black Schwartz posted a 45 and Brown County’s Mason Stover carded a 46.
The girls played the front nine with Liberty’s Brianna Troyer shooting a 53, followed by Brown County’s Kayla Barfield (55), Jaelee Eads (55) and Hope Ingram (56).
QND girls win quadrangular
COLCHESTER, Ill. — Quincy Notre Dame freshman Natalie Druffel shot a 38 to lead the girls golf team to victory in a quadrangular at Gold Hills Golf Course. The Raiders shot a 160, followed by Quincy High School at 195, Macomb at 212 and Rock Island at 214. Belle Boudreau shot a 39, Meredith Eversman a 41 and Nancy Scholz a 42 for the Raiders. Macomb’s Maris McKee shot a 46 to finish sixth and shoot her career-low nine-hole score.
Raiders run at front of pack
MACOMB, Ill. — Quincy Notre Dame swept the top individual spots in both cross country races Wednesday as freshman Elcee Waters won the girls race and senior Joe Warning won the boys race on the Spring Lake course. The Raiders had four other runners join Waters in the top 10 — Meghan Spears in third, Emmalyn Smith in fifth, Ari Waters in sixth and Mia Robnett in seventh. In the boys race, QND’s Oliver Moore, Devin Bradfield and Logan Meyer all finished in the top 10.
