MENDON, Ill. — It has become a tradition for the Unity-Payson football team to practice at the stroke of midnight the first allowable day Illinois High School Association schools can begin working out in full pads. So Friday night, just before midnight, the Mustangs pulled up at their home field to see the lights shining bright as they got their first full-contact session started.

Before that happened, Unity-Payson senior wide receiver Skylor Goudschaal joined Muddy River Sports Editor Matt Schuckman on the tailgate of his pickup to discuss the midnight practice, the energy the Mustangs have created and what it will take to return to the playoffs for this episode of “Schuck on a Truck,” brought to you by Shottenkirk Toyota.
