CHARLESTON, Ill. — A school record to go along with a state medal isn’t too shabby of a way to end the season.

The Camp Point Central girls 4×100-meter relay team accomplished that feat Saturday at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium, finishing in fifth place at the Class 1A state track and field championships.

The quartet of junior Macie Lierly, sophomore Faith Alford, sophomore Ellie Foote and freshman Adi Foss set a school record with their time of 49.91 seconds. In the 4×200 relay, the Central team of senior Emily Baker, Foss, Alford and Foote finished sixth with a season-best time of 1 minute, 48.14 seconds.

West Hancock freshman Grace Grothaus finished ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 11 inches. Liberty senior Arianna Neisen finished 20th in the 3,200 run in 12 minutes, 20.18 seconds.

Quincy High School’s Sasha Betz brought home a pair of medals, finishing second in the 100-meter wheelchair race with a new personal record time of 30.98 seconds. She also was second in the 200-meter wheelchair race in 1:11.46.

QHS’s Anna Venvertloh finished 25th in the 400 dash in 59.31 seconds.
